2294 ELEGANTES FRISIERSET MIT DRACHEN. Japan. Meiji-Zeit. Um 1900. Arthur & Bond Yokohama. Silber, in hohem Relief getrieben auf einem Fond mit Hammerschlag. Das Frisierset besteht aus einem runden Spiegel, bei dem der Leib des großen Drachen den runden Knauf bildet, einer kugeligen Dose, einer Haarbürste, einem Kamm, einer Kleiderbürste und einem kleinen Glastiegel mit Silberdeckel. Dazu passend ein kleines rechteckiges Tablett mit einem Drachen über Wogen und dem Monogramm MU (Mary Unger), ein Federhalter, eine Nagelfeile und der Griff eines Messers. Ebenfalls mit einem Drachen verziert, aber wohl aus einem anderen Zusammenhang, stammt ein kleines Kugelgefäß sowie eine Puderdose mit Schwertlilien verziert, ebenfalls von Arthur & Bond. Geboren in Cleveland, heiratete sie 1900 den Botaniker Alfred Wilhelm Unger, der die Exportgärtnerei L. Boehmer & Co in Yokohama, Japan leitete. Sie unterstützte ihren Ehemann in seinen Geschäften indem sie Texte für farbige Holzschnittkataloge (verlegt von Hasegawa, Takejirô) anfertigte, die zum großen Erfolg weltweit erheblich beitrugen. The set consists of a round mirror with a dragon forming the round handle, a spherical box, a hair brush, a comb, a cloth brush, a small jar (broken) with silver lid, a small tablet with a dragon above waves and a monogram MU (Mary Unger), a pen holder, a nailfile and the handle of a knife. Also adorned with a similar dragon design, but from another context, a small spherical vessel. A powder tin with iris from Arthur & Bond. Total weight 1.84kg. Condition A/B. 1.
