Privatsammlung Köln Buddhistische Kunst 2202 YAMA STANDING ON BUFFALO. YAMA AUF BÜFFEL STEHEND. Tibet. In the style of the 17th c., but later. Bronze with fire-gilding, inlaid stones and pigments. The separately cast base with a buffalo kneeling on a corpse might be originally closed. Yama is the personification of death, but is although punishing bad deeds. He is the counterpart to Manjusri and looks like his wrathful emanation Yamantaka. At the same time he is a powerful protector of the Buddhist doctrine (dharmapala). Weight 1094g, height 18cm, width 12.1cm, depth 6.6cm. Condition A/B. No 2203 and to the right the Yama on a buffalo cat. No 2202, partly hidden.
