The department engages particularly with works created by key artist-members of the ZERO Group: among them, Günther Uecker, Otto Piene, Heinz Mack, Yves Klein, Gotthard Graubner and Lucio Fontana. Numerous works have been sold into museums and international collections.

Through intensive and personal exchanges with museums, foundations, and private collections, we guarantee an exclusive group of bidders. We regularly achieve international record prices and would be pleased to advise you on the best means of marketing your art.

Fine Art

From February 2020 Dr. Davide Dossi will be responsible for Fine Art at VAN HAM. His profile consists of numerous and significant study and professional experiences as well as scholarships in internationally renowned research institutions and museums.

Under the new management, the Fine Art department is setting new challenges and new goals: Namely, to significantly increase the quality of the objects and to make the offer more international. The Old Masters Market in recent years has shown a strong interest on the part of the public in high-calibre objects or captivating themes that can stimulate the imagination of the future owner, enrich his or her everyday life and create a dialogue with the contemporary world.

For this reason, we are pleased to receive for our upcoming auctions paintings, sculptures and drawings from the Middle Ages to the end of the nineteenth century from all art schools, which can be attractive to an international audience of all ages.

Fine Jewels & Watches

Two times per year, VAN HAM holds comprehensive sales of valuable jewellery, as well as wrist- and pocket watches. The auction house has become one of Germany’s market leaders in this collecting category. The focus of the sales falls to historic jewelry and fine jewels from the Art Deco era and boasts objects by Cartier, Van Clefe & Arpels and Boucheron.

Signed originals of fine quality from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries can also be found in VAN HAM’s sales. A large portion of each sale features natural pearls, reflecting a high buyer’s demand for these objects. Along with historic jewellery, the sales also feature modern designs by Hemmerle, Bulgari and Chopard that will surely attract enthusiasts and collectors. The sales also cover wrist- and pocket watches by renowned manufacturers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Cartier, Glashütte and Lange & Söhne. The Jewellery, Jewels, and Watches auctions take place in May and November. For non-binding estimates, please contact our experts.

Decorative Art

Decorative Art counts as one of VAN HAM's oldest and most traditional departments. Founded in 1959 by Carola van Ham, it constituted the core business of the auction house. Christoph Bouillon continues this tradition today; his commitment has made the  Decorative Art Department one of Germany's most successful.

Entire collections of museum-quality objects are often entrusted to VAN HAM; these include the Laurenzen, Grothe, and Freckmann Collections. Equally valuable and at times spectacular individual consignments have also found their rightful place among the pages of the department's elaborately designed catalogues. Through well-established connections to collectors, public institutions, and museums, the department's sales have always been crowned with successes.

The offerings appear in three sales per year and cover select furniture, silver, porcelain and art objects, and Art Nouveau and Art Deco objects, among several other categories.
