2198 EXCEPTIONAL FOUR ARMED MAHAKALA. UNGEWÖHNLICHER VIERARMIGER MAHAKALA. Nepal. 20th c. Copper bronze, fire-gilding with pigments and stones. As guard of the Buddhist doctrine (dharmapala) he is sitting on two humans on a large lotus base and in front of flaming mandorla. With his outer arms he is wielding a sword and a trident, with the other ones he hold a cutting knife and a kapala. His body is adorned with snakes and bone jewels, around his neck he wears a long collier of human skulls. Buddhistische Kunst Remarkable are the rich fire-gilded decoration and flame red painted mandorla. The pigments on the figure’s face are very well preserved. Complete height 29cm, figure 17.8cm. STEHENDER MAITREYA. Tibet/Nepal. Ca. 1900. Bronze, finely graved, fire-gilding and inlaid with stones. Standing, his right hand raised in abhaya mudra. His garment is carved with fine pattern and over his left shoulder he wears an animal hide. In his left hand he supports a lotus with a big flower at his shoulder. Height 27.2cm, with base 32.2cm. Condition A/B. Wooden base added later.
