Sammlung Creutzfeldt 2239 IMPRESSIVE SHAFT OF THE GANESHA WITH RIDDHI AND SIDDHI. EINDRUCKSVOLLE STELE DES GANESHA MIT RIDDHI UND SIDDHI. India. 11th/12th c. Worked in high relief, with fine details. Bright pink sandstone with a darker patina skin. Adhesions of ocher and other pigments. Sitting in raja lalithasana in front of a mandorla on a throne, both decorated with flowers. His trunk is rolled up, his piled-up hair is elaborately coiffed and he is adorned with numerous jewels. On his knees he holds his two wives given to him by Brahma to soothe him. The sisters are symbols for prosperity/wealth (riddhi) and spiritual as well as emotional strength (siddhi). Its two other arms are raised holding an axe and a lotus bud. Sitting under his throne is his ridinganimal, a rat, between two worshippers. Ganesha is the jester in the Indian pantheon. He clears out obstacles and is called on together with his companions for success and prosperity. Height 76cm, width 47cm, depth 24cm. Condition A/B. Traces of weathering, chips and smaller damages, dark spots caused by fire damage. Provenance: -Collection Prof. Werner Creutzfeldt (1924-2006), acquired 1964-68 locally on travels. € 15.000 - 18.000 | $ 16.350 - 19.620 Sammlung Creutzfeld The three impressive steles are from the collection of Prof. Dr. Dr. Werner Otto Carl Creutzfeldt (1924-2006) internist and formerly director of the section gastroenterology and endocrinology of the University of Goettingen. He is son of Hans-Gerhard Creutzfeldt, after whom the Creutzfeldt-Jakob-disease was named and he is a brother of the neurophysiologist Otto Detlev Creutzfeldt (1927-1992) and a grandson of Werner Sombart. In the years 1964-68 he traveled with his wife to India, where he bought the steles. Prof. Dr. Dr. Werner Otto C.
