2049 WANG XIZHI OBSERVING GEESE. WANG XIZHI GÄNSE BEOBACHTEND. China. 20th c. Porcelain plate, painted with overglaze colors. The famous poet and calligrapher (303-361) of the Jin Dynasty is stroking his beard and watches a boy feeding the geese. He is observing how the geese are moving their necks as inspiration for movements of his wrist while calligraphing. Part of a poem of Li Bai as inscription. 31 x 21cm. Sign.: Liu Xiren (1906-67). PAAR GROSSER PLATTEN MIT AFFEN UND HIRSCHEN. China. Cyclical dated to 1951, but probably later. Porcelain, painted with overglaze colors, a narrow frame unglazed. On the plates with drawn in corners a representation of a meeting of the families of macaques and deer. The animals watch each other curiously and make carefully contact. Both animals are also read as rebuses in Chinese. Deer (lu) can be considered as a salary from the state, the word for monkey (hou) means a high government office. 55 x 37cm. Sign and seal: Bi Yuanming (1907-91), but attributed.
