2087 BIG CENSER WITH LION HEADS. GROSSER WEIHRAUCHBRENNER. China. Ming Dynasty. Probably Xuande period (1425-1435) or later. Bronze with dark patina. Flat, bulgy form with outward bent lip on a high, broad and slightly flared foot ring. Under the lip a bas-relief band with birds and lion masks. The two handles in shape of rings moveable in lion heads. Weight 4178g, height 14cm, Ø 27cm. Underneath in sunken relief six-partite mark: Da Ming Xuande nian zhi, and probably from the time. With ink: Xin jiu hao yi shi hao - probably an index of a collection or for the lineup on the altar. Condition A/B. Old repairs, a few bumps. Provenance: -Private collection Northern Germany.
