2108 THREE FRIENDS OF WINTER. DREI FREUNDE DES WINTERS. China. 18th c. Extremely seldom yellow jade from flawless quality. The light greenish shimmering stone is carved in openwork to depict an elegantly curved old pine tree with a bamboo and flowering prunus. The combination is known as the ‘Three Friends of Winter’, the carved base allows it to freely stand as decoration for the scholar’s desk as well as to be used as a wrist rest for calligraphy and painting.
