Das Muttertier schläft mit dem Kopf auf einem Bein und hochgeschwungenem Schwanz, während sein Junges angelehnt an Mutters Schulter sich hingebungsvoll das linke Vorderbein leckt. Ivory, well carved, polished with lightly accentuated details, completely covered with a beautiful, shady, warm, golden-yellow, natural patina. The mother is asleep, its head resting on one leg, its tail swung over its back while its young leaning towards the mother’s shoulder completely absorbed in licking its left front leg, a collar with a bow is visible on its back. Elfenbein, fein geschnitzt und graviert und leicht dunkel eingefärbt. Die Katze liegt mit den Vorderpfoten auf einem umgestürzten, alten Reibetopf, unter dem Bambusblätter liegen. Offenbar gilt jedoch ihr Interesse der halb geöffneten Awabi-Muschel, die neben dem Topf liegt. B.4,7cm. Zustand A/B. Altersrisse, minimale Bestoßung an einem Ohr. The cat, with its front legs over an upturned suribachi lying on bamboo-leaves. However it seems to be more interested in the half open awabi shell lying next to the pot. W.4.7cm. Condition A/B. Elfenbein und schwarzes Horn mit fein gravierten und leicht eingefärbten Details. Die Augen des Tieres eingelegt sind aus schwarzem Horn. Schöne, teils goldgelbe Gebrauchspatina. Das Eichhörnchen mit langem, buschigen Schwanz hockt auf einem, leicht verrotteten Biwa-Blatt neben drei großen Früchten. L.6,1cm. Zustand A. Provenienz: -Alte Sammlungs-Nr. 621. NETSUKE: SQUIRREL WITH BRANCH OF BIWA-FRUITS. Japan. Edo Period. About 1800. Ivory and dark horn with finely engraved and slightly coloured details. The eyes of the animal inlaid with black horn. Beautiful, partly golden-yellow natural patina. The squirrel with its long, bushy tail squats upon a slightly rotting biwa-leaf next to three large fruits. L.6.1cm. Condition A.
