Raden Saleh Ben Jaggia

VAN HAM has established themself internationally as a specialist for the Orientalist from Java

In recent years, VAN HAM has been able to offer central works from Raden Saleh's various creative phases and place them very successfully on the international market: in addition to seascapes or Javanese landscapes, these are first and foremost his dramatic fight scenes with exotic animals – wild scenes with which, in his undeniable painterly quality, he put the exotic of his biography into the picture and thrilled the public. Today, they are guarantors of great response and long bidding battles at our auctions. Raden Saleh was a Javanese painter, a wanderer between cultures and a true citizen of the world. From 1839 on, he experienced a tremendous social revaluation at the court in Dresden.
