Rolex Daytona

"Chronometer of superlatives"

Named after the Daytona Beach racetrack, no watch is more closely associated with racing than the Daytona Chronograph from Rolex. Designed specifically for motorsport enthusiasts, the chronograph not only enabled precise timekeeping to the second, but also the reading of average speed per hour over a pre-determined distance. In the 1960s, the Daytona made film history when it appeared on the wrist of Paul Newman in the movie "Winning." The passionate racing driver wore a Daytona reference 6239 with a certain dial and subsequently became its namesake. The special feature of his watch consisted of the combination of the sporty racing driver together with the lovingly engraved dedication of his wife Joanne Woodward on the back: "DRIVE CAREFULLY. ME." In 2017, it sold for $17.8 million as the most expensive movie accessory ever sold at an auction. A "chronometer of superlatives", the Rolex Daytona is still one of the most coveted watches in the world today, regularly fetching high results. The myth of the Daytona is unbroken.
