From Abstract Expressionism to Color Field Painting and Pop Art: at the end of the Second World War, the avant-garde migrated from Europe to the USA and New York was declared an art metropolis. The “Made in America” auction takes up the diverse American art movements of the long 20th century. The offer is complemented by a selection of contemporary American positions.
A particular highlight of the auction is “Campbell's Soup”: one of the most iconic images by the legendary pop artist Andy Warhol, which stands for the fusion of everyday culture and art like no other. The famous soup can became a symbol of a new era in which consumerism and art merged in a provocative way. Warhol's unmistakable style had a lasting impact on the dynamics and self-image of the emerging Pop Art movement in the 1960s. In addition to “Campbell's Soup”, Indian's iconic “LOVE” motif and Tom Wesselman's portraits of women are also represented in the auction. Pop art quickly replaced the art world dominated by abstract expressionism and is still very popular today.
