In seiner nur knapp zwanzigjährigen Schaffenszeit leistet Wols Pionierarbeit für die expressive Abstraktion der Nachkriegszeit in Europa und ist damit ein wichtiger Wegbereiter und Vertreter von Tachismus und Informel. Inspiration hierfür findet der Autodidakt, der 1932 nach Paris übersiedelt, in den Werken der Surrealisten wie auch der Bauhausmeister.

Das Porträt des Künstlers wurde bei VAN HAM in der Auktion 307 am 09.12.2011 versteigert.
